M&I - Human Behavior Design

Jumbo Supermarkten App

For the course Maatschappij & Interactie, I researched the behavior patterns of users of the Jumbo App. Together with my project partner, I analyzed the behaviors users display when ordering groceries.

To draw our conclusions, we utilized various methods, such as Fogg’s B=MAP model, Cialdini’s principles, and Harris’s 10 Hijacks.

Based on our findings, we developed a concept aimed at encouraging more people to pick up their ordered groceries in-store.

My Findings

My Findings

In this course, it was interesting to discover that even subtle design choices can have a significant impact on user behavior. Every interaction with a product is strategically designed to subtly guide the user in the desired path, often without them even realizing it.

After completing this course, I’ve increasingly noticed that many apps, websites, and even commercial spaces, like the layout of a supermarket, are often designed to subtly influence the users or customers behavior.

Design psychology

I really enjoyed working with behavior design in this course, and it has provided me with new insights into the direction I want to take with my studies. Influencing users without them realizing it might sound manipulative, but if it works and the user experience improves significantly, it gives me a great sense of satisfaction.

All in all, this aspect of being a CMD professional deeply interests me and motivates me to focus more on it in the future.
